Musto, based in Essex in the east of England, is a producer of high performance sailing, equestrian, shooting and general sportswear clothing. They have recently been awarded Royal Warrants of appointment by HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.
The company was established in 1965 by Keith Musto, a successful sailor and engineer. He combined his sports and technical expertise to create products to withstand even the most extreme conditions. In 1979 he with Keith Hyde, developed the first protective 3 layer sailing clothing , followed in 1983 with the first viable 2 piece sailing dry-suit.
The founder has notable sailing achievements such as a winning the Flying Dutchman nationals, a silver medal in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and a subsequent appointment as the Olympic team coach for the Japanese sailing team in 1976.
Musto are the official partners of the British Olympic sailing team Skandia Team GBR.
Since 1989 Musto is the clothing of choice for RNLI lifeboat Crews. Musto has a long relationship with Dame Ellen Macarthur since setting off around Britain on Iduna to her current exploits with the Offshore Challenges Sailing Team, including the accolade of becoming the fastest solo sailor around the world in 2005 aboard the trimaran B&Q.
In equestrianism, they sponsor Zara Phillips, daughter of HRH the Princess Royal and who curently is a brand ambassador for Musto. Zara has created a new range of outdoor wear which will be titled ‘179’ which is her eventing number. The range includes jackets and fleeces and will be launched to the trade in early 2010 and is expected to go on general sale in August 2010.
