Ulster Weavers Home Fashions is a home textiles company based in Holywood in Northern Ireland. The company can trace its history back to the nineteenth century as The Ulster Weaving Company which was originally founded in 1880.  Ulster Weavers Home Fashions has held the royal warrant as suppliers of kitchen textiles to HM  The Queen  since 1995.

The company produces a range of beautifully illustrated items under license from the Royal Horticutural Society and  notable designers.

Throughout the late 19th and early 20th century, the Company continued to spin, weave, bleach and finish the high quality linen for which Ireland and the northern province of Ulster had become famous the world over. Linen is a fabric made from the flax plant (as is linseed oil).  The textile has been used for thousands of years in particular for undergarments for their coolness (the word lingerie comes via the french word for underwear made of linen). Linen’s durability is legendary; when the tomb of the Pharaoh Ramesses II, who died 1213 BC, was discovered in 1881, the linen wrappings were in a state of perfect preservation – after more than 3000 years. In the Belfast Library there is preserved the mummy of “Kaboolie,’ the daughter of a priest of Ammon, who died 2,500 years ago. The linen on this mummy is in a like state of perfection. When the tomb of Tutankamen was opened, the linen curtains were found intact.

During the 1960’s the Ulster Weaving company brought the hundreds of years of textile expertise in Ireland to the kitchen textile sector – specialising at first in Irish Linen Tea Towels and over the years expanding the range to include all types of kitchen co-ordinates, bags and giftware. Ulster Weavers prides itself on the production of high quality linen and textile products. Every product is designed in Northern Ireland and the company still relies on the knowledge 125 years in the production of textiles.

To meet the demands of a 21st century market, production takes place in various sites throughout the world, but the process and the quality of the end product is still controlled in Northern Ireland.

Today, Ulster Weavers Home Fashions is a family business with a worldwide reach and sell their range of products to customers all over the world. Products available for national and international customers can be found below.
